jumba; Incorrect. Linguistics trace the origin of "nigger" to "Nigeria". Latin "niger" is the root for "Nigeria", what Romans called the region, pre-dating modern spanish. First recorded instances of "nigger" were during the Atlantic slave trade, occuring in English, not Spanish. What we have is "negro" and "Nigeria" having a common root, "niger", therefore "nigger" and "negro" have a common root word, "niger". So, no "nigger" didn't come from "negro"
