Well actually, that's not entirely true, only partially. Stretching it beforehand in small increments, the vaginal cavity can expand quite a good bit. If the proper steps are taken no damage would be done. After all, a vagina is the size of a lemon and it's designed to squeeze out something the size of a watermelon.
