I'd say Patreon would be a good idea. You could have things like stretch goals and raffle commissions that randomly go out to supporters that give a certain amount monthly. Everybody pitching in like 1 or 2 bucks a month would add up, no?

Indeed, it would. Wouldn't really take a lot to get by even if there's only a few people donating.
